Drugstore Haul

At the end of the year, I treated myself with a few drugstore products. I wanted to treat myself with good products because, for example, I realized that my hair and my face had become very dry. For cheap products, I often feel that they do not have the desired effect. I especially noticed the brand Aussie. The products have been very promising. I bought two conditioners and a shampoo. The products smell good, cost only 5 € and really cares for the hair very well. I immediately felt that my hair looks healthier and feels healthier. I bought the conditioner "Repair Miracle" (250ml) and the conditioner "Stop The Break" (250ml) as well as the shampoo "Nourish Miracle" (300ml).

I also bought special care for my hair and a hair spray from TIGI. From TIGI I bought the "Leave-In Cream Ego Boost" (237ml) care and "Bed Head Masterpiece" (340ml) Hairspray also from TIGI. The Leave-In Cream is great for the lengths of the hair and the ends of the hair. Due to my blond highlights, I urgently need this care. The "Moroccan Argan Penetrating Oil" (100ml) by OGX is used for further care. I use hair oil several times a week and the difference is huge. I use the hair mask "Agave" (340g) from Maui once a week. It smells good and nourishes the hair a lot. I am very curious how my hair develops after a few month of using the products.

For my face, I bought two creams, a scrub and a many face masks. Taking time for masks is a good investment in your skin. You can just read a book and treat yourself to some rest. Simply put the masks on for 10 minutes or longer and you will have so much nicer, softer and more nourished skin. I bought three masks: a "moisturizing mask", a "cleansing mask" and a "peel-off mask" - all from the German brand Balea. I also bought an "Intensive Night Cream" and a Day Care "Aqua Moisturizing Cream Gel", both from Balea. I also bought Neutrogena's "Skin Refining Scrub - Visibly Clear Fine & Matt."

In addition, I bought the "luxurious eyeliner pen" in "10 pure black" by p2 cosmetics. One of the best eyeliners - next to the Kat von D one. "Wake up Concealer" in "Naturelle" by MANHATTAN Cosmetics is perfect for pale skin and for under-eye shadows. I also bought two mascaras. The "Colossal Volum'Express Mascara" in black by Maybelline New York is one of my favorites. The eyelashes do not stick together but simply become longer and more voluminous. The other Mascars is Max Factor's "Clump Defy Volumising Mascara". I was really excited about the mascara. It really extends the eyelashes extremely, even without clumping.

What I Got For Christmas

Merry christmas! I hope you had nice christmas days, with lots of delicious food and sweets, nice gifts and a wonderful time with your family. I had all of this :) I got great gifts, ate delicious food and way too much chocolate. But: Christmas is only once a year. But I'm looking forward to Wednesday already. Then I finally can eat healthier and less. I have such a huge belly and that is really uncomfortable. I like to eat healthy and am looking forward to it.

From my boyfriend I got the "Sherlock Season 4" blu-ray and the movie "Spotlight". Also a totally cute raccoon wall calendar and the new album from the Beatsteaks "Young" and the new book by John Green "Turtles All The Way Down".

I also received the blu-rays "Aladdin", "Ariel, the little mermaid", "Dunkirk" and "Manchester by the Sea". My blu-ray collection is growing and I love it! I also received the books "Spoiler Alert: The Hero Dies" by Michael Ausiello and "The Remains of the Day" by Kazuo Ishiguro. Last but not least: my big sister gifted me and my twin sister a day at an alpaca farm. Without a doubt the best gift I got this christmas. I am really happy that I received so many great presents from my family and my boyfriend. I also recieved some money and some chocolate from my grandparents and my boyfriend's parents.

On Christmas Eve we decorated the Christmas tree, baked cookies (moomin papa and mustache cookies!), listened to Christmas music and ate raclette together - and way too much chocolate. It was beautiful. It is always a highlight when the whole family is together. I love it when my family unpacks presents I bought them. Christmas is just the best time of the year. December has passed so fast. It is unbelievable. I'm looking forward to next December already. If everything goes well, then I was already in the US, have a bachelor's degree, am six years with my friend together and weigh 55 kilograms. Let's hope for the best!

Going Plant-Based: Why?

Plant-based: A whole-food, plant-based diet is centered on whole, unrefined, or minimally refined plants. It's a diet based on fruits, vegetables, tubers, whole grains, and legumes; and it excludes meat, dairy products, and eggs, as well as highly refined foods like bleached flour, refined sugar, and oil.

It's time to change and become happy. For over 12 years, unfortunately, I have been living on an eating disorder and thinking about eating and forgetting. I would like to change that. That is why I have made changes to my diet. No longer wanting to lose weight, but because I want to live healthy without stomach problems. I eat very much sugar and chocolate. I eat vegetarian, but I feel that the lactose and soy problems make me. Why do I want to plan-based and vegan? I explain this in the next points. I did not eat 100% vegan and plan-based. I try to make every meal as good as possible. Vegan food I find relatively easy. I just have to omit eggs, dairy products and honey. Otherwise, I have not eaten any other animal products. Plant-based is difficult as a student. Often an artificial ingredient may be included in the product. However, the goal is not to be perfect, but to be better.

Here are my reasons:
  1. I do not want to have stomach problems. Many people who eat plant-based and vegan, report that they have significantly fewer stomach problems.
  2. I would like to find out how I feel psychologically and physically.
  3. I want to protect animals. There is also much suffering behind eggs and dairy products. To minimize this suffering gives me a good feeling. I may be able to eat eggs and dairy products. I want to start slowly. Every day vegan and plant-based. Exceptions are, for example, Christmas or birthdays when there are cakes.
  4. I want to defeat my sugar and get out of my routines. I snack very often without thinking and eating too much sweets. Sugar makes you tired, sick and depressed.
  5. I want to get back my hunger feeling and learn to eat when I'm hungry.
  6. I want to get my blood glucose level under control.
  7. Finally, defeat eating disorder and remove the obsession.
  8. I make a diet change - no diet. It's about eating healthy and living healthier.
  9. I want to cook more and get to know more delicious food.

I will write down: How I feel in general. How is my digestion. How it goes to my skin and my hair. I will also weigh and watch how my weight changes. Whether my sleep is better and I feel generally better. Reflect on what life is better: my old or my new one?

The Perfect Carrot Cake Recipe

It's my birthday - so I made this amazing carrot cake! It's not that difficult to make and really my whole family loved this cake. It's an eye-catcher at every birthday party and it's just looks really cute - and like you're a real pro at cake making ;)

You will need for the dough:
  • 420g plain flour
  • 480g caster sugar
  • 250g finely ground nuts (walnuts or other nuts / seeds)
  • 2.5 teaspoons of cinnamon
  • 3/4 teaspoons of salt
  • 1.5 teaspoons of baking powder
  • 1.5 teaspoons of bicarbonate of soda
  • 6 eggs
  • 450ml vegetable oil (I use sunflower oil)
  • 375g finely grated carrots

You will need for the Cream Cheese Icing:
  • 170g butter
  • 270g cream cheese
  • 930g icing sugar

You will need for the decoration:
  • chopped walnuts or brittle
  • sugar carrots (or marzipan carrots)

I used three 9 inch cake tints to make a perfect three layered carrot cake. You can also use four layers but it's important to have the same amount of dough in the tints.
  1.  Put the flour, cinnamon, salt, baking powder, bicarbonate of soda and the nuts or seeds into your bowl.
  2. You need to finely ground your nuts or seeds.
  3. Take another bowl and put the eggs and the sugar together. Mix it for about 1-2 minutes before slowly adding the sunflower oil. Mix it until everything is mixed together.
  4. Now you can add your finely shredded carrots. I always use my food processor. It saves a lot of time and it's much more easier for your arms. Add them to your bowl and genetly put the dough and the carrots together with a large spoon.
  5. Now you can add your dry ingredients. Mix it together until you have a nice dough.
  6. Put the same amount of dough and all of the three tints.
  7. Now you have to bake the dough for 25-28 minutes at 175 degree celcius.
After you bake them. Let them cool down completly. After they cooled down it's time to make  the frosting.
  1. Put your butter into a bowl and beat it until it's pale and "fluffy".
  2. Now you can add the cream chese and mix it again for some seconds.
  3. Now you have to add the icing sugar. It's a lot - but you're probably going to need it.
Your frosting is done. Now it's time to layer your cake. Now loosen your first cake from the tint and put it on a plate. Put some icing on the cake and spread it evenly. Don't put to much icing on it. You don't want you cake to be that high. After you put icing on your cake, loosen the second cake from its tint and put in carefully on the icing. Now repeat the same process again.

Now it's time to put the icing on the sides of your cake. Be really carefully and don't let your cakes move to on or the other side.

At last you can decorate your cake! I put some brittle on the top and the bottom of the cake and used some mini carrots made out of sugar.

44th BMW Berlin Marathon 2017: Everything seems impossible until it's done.

What a journey. Three days Berlin, which have taught me a lot. I've learned a lot about what I'm able to do when I really want something. My journey started very early. At 2:40am my alarm clock went off. But I was already wide awake at 2 o'clock. Luckily I went to bed at 19 clock the day before, otherwise I would not have been able to get out off bed. My taxi was ordered for 3 o'clock and a few minutes later I was at the main station. From the main station I took a train to the Cologne Bonn airport. There I had to wait about two hours for my flight. But I wanted to be there early enough. I did not want to miss my flight. So I sat down in a cafe, bought a coffee and a diet coke for six euros. Typical airport rates. I read the newspaper and waited until boarding began. The flight went well. I flew for only fifty minutes and I went straight to the Marathon Expo.

The Expo was great. I was also very lucky. I was there before 10 o'clock. According to the organizer, especially between 10 and 14 clock it's really crowded. I just had to wait 20 minutes. I got my time measurement chip, my starting number, my start band for the wrist and a bag full of small gifts and advertising. There were medals from the most famous marathons in the world. I was so excited. I absolutely want to run London and New York. I left the Expo after about thirty minutes. I was quite tired and still had not eaten anything except a muesli bar. It was already 10 o'clock.

I had three hours to spend before I could check in at my hotel. I took a train to Alexanderplatz and went to the big department store 'Alexa'. There I went into a Starbucks and bought my breakfast after I had been on the road for over 8 hours. I bought a cappuccino and a wrap with chick-peas and vegetables. Afterwards I went shopping in a supermarket. I bought muesli, lactose-free milk and water. The muesli was my lunch and dinner. I did not want to risk stomach problems. I also bought two bananas for breakfast and my dinner. Besides, I bought a croissant. That should be my dinner after the marathon. I knew I would hardly be hungry after the marathon. I had to buy something that is still edible until the next evening. Unfortunately I did not have a refrigerator in my hotel room. I did not want to order food after the marathon. I knew I just needed time for myself after the marathon.

In the hotel I relaxed. I called friends and family to give me some more courage and went to bed very early. Because I was really afraid of getting sick before the marathon I was really nervous. Almost my whole family had the flu. So I was incredibly nervous before the marathon. I was rarely so nervous. It should be a big challenge. Hard work: mentally and physically.

My alarm clock went of at 6am. I had slept well, about seven hours. I sleep an average of between six and eight hours a night. I had breakfast directly because I wanted to digest the food. Then I went for a shower and tried to drink at least a liter of water. I left my hotel room just before eight and met a runner with her boyfriend. They came from San Diego. We talked and took a picture. This made me really happy because I traveled to Berlin alone. So I was quite alone. Then meeting nice people was just great.

There were a lot of runners on the way to the marathon. It was not possible to not find the way to the start. At the toilets I talked with another nice runner. She planned a marathon under 3:30 hours. Impressive. That's why we said goodbye because we had to go to different starting blocks. From then on I was alone. I was very excited and the weather still did not bother me. It was not too warm. The humidity was more than 90 percent. At 10 o'clock my starting block started running. I was relatively close to the start, so I already crossed the starting line at 10:02am. Before I had to set up a second toilet stop. However, I was able to start early.

The first 21 kilometers went very well. I wanted to run around 6:20 minutes per kilometer. Since I did not feel 100% fit, I wanted to run slower. Relatively early, I got pain in my right thigh. The pain came early, but I knew I could endure the pain. The pain under my feet came sooner than I thought. However, I was able to deal with pain. For a brief moment, I feared a spasm in my left calf to get and was already afraid. Luckily I was able to get this feeling out quickly. At 26 kilometers the last pain was added. My left leg also began to hurt. But the pain was ok.

Worse was the slump at 26 kilometers.I was not really exhausted. I think the high humidity has made me feel like that. I had to slow down my pace. From time to time, I had the feeling of fainting or having to puke. I also got stomach problems, which unfortunately also disturbed my race. From there on the struggle began . The fight not to walk, do not give up. Walk would be the same as giving up - for my case. I did not get right in the run, I could not smile anymore. Music also didn't help, the crowd didn't help. The fact that I was running the Berlin Marathon did not help. It was a hell of a fight. At kilometer 30, I called my boyfriend, as I had planned before, to get some strength. It did not help unfortunately. I fought. I counted kilometers down for once at a time. I did not let it go. The fight didn't end. But I didn't walked.

Even at kilometer 40 I was not happy because 2,195 kilometers can be very long after you fought for about 14 kilometers. But then about 1.2 kilometers before the goal there came the last corner. And there it was: the Brandenburg Gate. The goal. I almost cried. I ran off and ran my fastest kilometer. I ran and ran. This feeling was indescribable.

At the finish I was so relieved that it was over. I was slightly faster than my first marathon. But I didn't reached my goal under 4:30 hours. But that did not make me sad. I was proud: I did not give up. I was disappointed because I could not enjoy this great marathon. The humidity and the fact that I was not completely healthy, simply did not allow a easy run. I have earned this medal so much. The idea that I never want to run a marathon again was gone very quickly. I want to improve and train more intelligently. I am a runner and we do not give up.

I then made my way to my hotel. I drank a lot of water and ate something. At 8pm I went in bed after talking to friends and family. I have survived Berlin and I am so proud.

The next day I had a delicious breakfast in the hotel. The day before I had discovered a scrap wound on my arm. I do not know when I got it and why. It hurt a little at the end of the marathon, but the day after it just looked bad but wasn't painful. After breakfast I relaxed in my room for a while and checked out at around 11am. I walked through Berlin and enjoyed the time, even if the walking hurted a bit. I enjoyed a coffee, a vegan muffin and a bagel at Starbucks. Then I went to the main station and from there I took a train to the airport Schönefeld.

What a crazy trip. I am still amazed at what I have done. I am ready for the next marathon: either London or Cologne. London is very unlikely, but the hope dies at last. Tomorrow I write an exam and my birthday is on friday. I am happy now, because I have learned a really good lesson: Everything seems impossible until it's done.

Berlin Marathon: one week left


It's that time again. After almost a whole year (how fast the time passes) my second marathon is almost there. On October 2nd 2016 was one of the most beautiful and most instructive days of my life. I've learned that I can achieve anything when I try hard and never give up. I was so happy that I did not give up. I havn't walked at the marathon. I enjoyed the first 28 kilometers and then fought mentally. Physically I was fit. But every runner knows that the head is the biggest enemy it is to defeat.

Now I'm sitting here. The next marathon is only six days away and there are many signs against a great run. It probably is going to rain. The marathon also takes place on the same day as the Bundestagswahl. That is why there are over fifty pedestrian crossings that are likely to cause runners to collide with pedestrians. Runners are disturbed, maybe fall, get injured, and so on. These are the worst-case scenarios. Positive thinking is difficult in times like this. Right now my head is painting all the negative possibilities.

For these reasons, I gave up my time goal. I also run in a wrong starting block, with all runners who wants to finish over 4:15 hours the marathon as well as all who have never run a marathon. So I have to overtake many people.

I can only hope for the best. Perhaps I read this in 7 days and everything went well. I dont know. There has never been a comparable situation, which is why I do not know how it turns out on Sunday. The runners can be stopped badly and the pedestrians lose their patience at some point and just go over it and think "That will be alright!". But then a runner hits them and of course the runners have to run besides the pedastrian, lose time and if this happens more often in the race it can also really annoy the runnery.

At the moment, however, I think the City Berlin don't really care about the runners. It is about the election and the marathon. The organizers of the marathon are forced to set up these pedestrian crossings. The government has refused to postpone the election. I also do not know why they would not hold the election on another day in firtst play For the present one very likely also leads to fewer people choosing to vote. I do not know who made this decision.

I can not change the situation. I must learn to accept situations that I can not influence and make the most of them. Smile. Wait what happens. I hope that everything goes well and everything is well planned. Do not allow me to be influenced by something happening.

I paid a lot of money for the Berlin Marathon. I would like to reach my goal to run a marathon under 4:30 hours. I hope that the circumstances do not destroy my goal. The speed should not be the problem, my fitness is good. I hope that my head, my fears and my doubts will not stand in my way.

I'll try to believe in myself the next few days. To accept the situation and make the best of it. If this situation destroys the marathon for me - and many others - then simply shake it off. I hope that a time between 4:20 to 4:29 hours is possible. Despite the conditions. I will do my best. I have a plan on how fast I need to run to reach my goal time. Even if I run one kilometer longer, I should make it.

I just have to say to myself that the organization of this event cannot destroy this day. I have paid so much money. I've trained so much. I'm going to smile. I will do my best. And no matter how this is going to turn out, I'm going be happy, proud and going to enjoy the day. Even in the rain, even after ten clashes with strangers, who illegally crossed the track. I am concerned about recklessness and lack of ability to organize a marathon and a choice.

I hope that I read this entry next week and that I will be proud with my medal in hand and a time under 4 hours 30 minutes. I will do my best. I am going to be strong. Happy. Grateful.

I have six day left to get rid of my anxiety and the panic.

Just run. Don't think about it. Just run. Run your pace.

Cornflakes, Matcha Latte + Sushi in Cologne

I really love cornflakes. So I had to visit the cornflakes café named "Flakes Corner". It serves national and international cornflakes that you don't get in Germany, Milkshakes (and Freakshakes), Waffles, international candy and amazing coffee. The café is so nerdy! They played music from the 70th, 80th and 90th, there were pictures of old tv series and movies. There was a Nintendo 64 you could play on. It was really great. You can chose between three different sizes: a small bowl, a large bowl and a "super bowl". The small and large bowl are both really small I would say. The "super bowl" costs 7,90€ and you don't have to pay the 70cents extra for international cornfales. It's expensive but the international cornflakes really costs a lot for them. So I chose 4 different cornflakes (I didn't saw the cinnebons cornflakes until it was too late - so sad). I chose Crave Double Chocolate, Reeses Puffs, Oreo-Os and something that was called Mocha Crunch. It was all really great! I took caramel milk (they have a lot of option) and put some M&Ms on top (you also have a lot of opions here). Flavoured milks costs 50cents and sweets on top costs 70cents extra. Yes it is expensive but as a treat it's really worth it.

Afterwards we went to a café named TENTEN. We had Matcha Latte and my sister had a Frozen Matcha Latte. If you ever find yourself in Cologne or Dusseldorf - visit the TENTEN Café - they have amazing food and drinks. We didn't ate something because we were still full from our breakfast.

Then we went to a sushi place. We originally wanted to go to another place but it was close! But we really enjoyed our stay. The green tea was lovely and the sushi was also really nice. Unfortunately they didn't made different sushi. They just made the same sushis all the time. We could have ordered different sushis, but this is not the point of "running sushi restaurant". But the sushi was nice and the waiters also was really really kind to every costumer :)
